Flavor of the Week #32

Com Truise

( ;D --> Com Truise is one of the many personas of producer and designer Seth Haley, born and raised in upstate New York and operating out of a 12’-overrun apartment in Princeton, New Jersey. An admitted synth obsessive, Com Truise is the maker of an experimental and bottom heavy style he calls “mid-fi synth-wave, slow-motion funk”. What do you call musicians like Com Truise? He seems easy enough to pin down—throw out some words like “nostalgia,” “synth-wave,” “eighties,” and “electro-funk” and you’ll scrape by—but to be truly insightful about his music is tough, because art that is so blatantly referencing certain things in a certain way while also making them weird and new and unique is confusing. How do you classify something that is so obviously both vintage and current but is too fun to call postmodern?)

The Legandary Pink Dots

http://legendarypinkdots.org/
( ;D --> The Legendary Pink Dots (LPD) are an Anglo-Dutch experimental rock band formed in London in August 1980. Although far outside the mainstream (in terms of their music and career path), LPD have released more than 40 albums, have a devoted worldwide following, and tour frequently. The story behind the band's name is a source of speculation because Edward has given multiple explanations behind its origins. The most plausible and common explanation traces back to the mysterious pink dots on certain keys of the band's main recording studio piano named "Osbert"; the dots that can be found at either end of the keys do not make any particular chord or scale pattern and the reason for them remains unknown to this day. The piano itself is still owned by one of the founding band members, April White, and can be found at her home recording studio in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. Their music touches on elements of neo-psychedelia, ambient music, electronic music, tape music, industrial, psych folk, synth-pop, post-punk, progressive, jazz, noise, pop, and goth rock, with a distinctly experimental/avant-garde bent; their sound has evolved over time and remains distinctive, making it difficult to place the group into a concise style or genre. The group's overall sound combined with Ka-Spel's distinct lyrics and singing have earned comparisons to Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett;[1] the group also has links to the sounds of krautrock bands such as Can,[2] Faust, Brainticket, Magma or Neu! (whose "Super" they covered on the 1999 tribute album "A Homage to NEU!"), as well, to some post-industrial`pioneers as Nurse With Wound and the neo-folk of Current 93. Edward Ka-Spel has said their musical influences range from the likes of Abba to Iannis Xenakis. The Pink Dots also collaborated with Skinny Puppy's cEvin Key, forming a side project named The Tear Garden. Key also appears on the 1994 LPD album 9 Lives to Wonder. Others groups related to present and past Pink Dots members are Strange Attractor, Mimir and Minizza.)

Schwarzblut
www.schwarzblut.com
( ;D --> Schwarzblut, hailing from the east of The Netherlands, was founded in 2007 and blends romantic melancholic Weimar poetry with danceable dark electronic music. An eclectic style diversity that accentuates a duality between male and female vocalists. Schwarzblut signed with Alfa Matrix in 2009, shortly afterwards followed by the release of the band's "Sehlenwolf" EP. Schwarzblut covers such a wide musical range that they have been compared to bands as diverse as Qntal, VNV Nation or yet Skinny Puppy. Schwarzblut surprises the listener by mixing pounding electro rhythms, harmonic choirs, distorted vocals, cutting leads, grandiloquent orchestras, dark romanticism and German lyrical poetry from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich von Schiller and Karoline von Günderrode.)

( ;D --> kicking off his career in the music business over a decade ago working at a vinyl distributor, stuttgarts normen flaskamp began producing back in 1999 and was releasing records under various guises on different labels soon after - but it was in 2006 that his solee alias was born, propelling him to new heights in the house and techno realm.
in 2006 he decided to take the reins into his own hands and set up a label, parquet recordings - a venture with straight distribution to disseminate his distinctive take on melodic, potent techno and lush, grooving tech house. the name solee was chosen as his new nom-de-plume and to serve as a creative rebirth, and this project has been his focal point since then.)
